2013's must-have games on your smartphone

Clash of Clans

A huge iOS classic, Clash of Clans for Android was first launched in the Google Play Store in October. The game combines strategy and multiplayer combat and ensures hours of gaming fun thanks to the riveting graphics and zealous quests. Clash of Clans is certainly one of 2013’s shining stars. Your New Year’s resolution? Constructing and developing the best Clash of Clans village there ever was!
Plant vs Zombies 2

After the first success of Plants vs Zombies, the game where plants combat hordes of zombies, PopCap (bought by EA) reinvented the game with Plants vs Zombies 2. Your challenge: protect your house from incoming flesh-eating ghouls as they slowly advance. How? By planting an array of various plants, each with a different 'skill': create sunshine, shoot, catapult, explode...If that wasn’t exciting enough, you are whisked back in time to combat zombies from different epochs, like Ancient Egypt, Pirates, and the Far West. This game is nuts, but undeniably addicting.

FIFA 14

This game isn’t just for football/soccer fans, but has managed to enthrall even those who don’t consider this their favorite sport. FIFA was first invented for PC and consoles, but has now made its way to smartphones and tablets in the most awesome way. You have 33 leagues, 600 teams and 16,000 players to choose from in order to create your dream team and try to become the FIFA 2014champions. The game has been optimized for tablets and offers breathtaking graphics.

Despicable Me

If you love the movie Despicable Me, you’re going to go ballistic for the Android game that follows Gru and the little minions in their mischief. The levels and challenges vary all the time, so boredom is not a factor here. The application will sometimes deliver temporary updates which will decorate Gru’s street in various ways and offer special missions, like we saw with the Halloween edition. Will there be a Christmas version? Boys and girls, I think there is!
© Gameloft

Pet Rescue Saga

Here’s another masterpiece from the creators of Candy Crush Saga that many of you know all too well (yes I’m looking at you person who landed in rehab after playing it too much). In this game, instead of candies, you need to match colored cubes in order to make them fall and all of this to save poor animals that have been captured. This is an addicting game just like Candy Crush and offers a ton of brightly-colored and varying levels. You can also sign up using your Facebook account and share your success.

Other amazing games:

The following games didn’t make the cut for the top 5, nevertheless it doesn’t take away from their immense popularity. If your favorite game isn’t here, don’t hesitate to let us know what we’ve missed in the comments below.

Asphalt 8: Airborne

The new version of this well-known game was created by Gameloft and is free! Here you'll discover brand-new car models, 9 exotic destinations with tons of hidden shortcuts, a multiplayer mode and all of this with the game’s own unique music and excellently designed graphics: it truly is a pleasure to play this on a tablet. Asphalt 8 has gained a nice following of Android fans and perhaps you’ll join them too.

Real Racing 3

Here’s another highly popular racing game and the main adversary to Asphalt 8: Real Racing 3. The new version of the app has also expanded their garage of vehicles and now includes over 900 events to test your derby skills. There are also time trials, championship cups, challenges and endurance races.

Deer Hunter 2014

Amateurs of hunting have a new favorite this year. Among the various hunting games for Android that we think are awesome, Deer Hunter is the best. The game takes you on a world tour, equips you with different weapons and sets you on the chase for all walks of life. If you don’t practice hunting in real life due to moral reasons, rest assured that no animals are harmed in the playing of this game.
Star Wars: Tiny Death Star

The game from LucasArts has received much acclaim and it seems that any game that includes the Star Wars name always winds up in first place on the podium. Unlike the movies, here you will find yourself on the Dark Side, hand-in-hand with none other than Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. The game offers cute 8-bit graphics and is a lot of fun.

Talking Tom Cat 2 Free

Though the years of Tamagotchis are long gone, their success has crossed over to Android. One of the apps that has become extremely popular in this genre is Talking Tom Cat. Now with the second edition out in Google Play, there is no stopping this regrettable trend. In this game, you need to love, feed the cat and don’t forget about cleaning out the litter box. The game is actually quite funny and contains many mini-games and bonuses to keep you hooked.

Which were your favorite apps from this past year?

The dark side of the moon or the dark side of WhatsApp: the small print at a glance

Source Article By: AndroidPit

WhatsApp has its fair share of good news touting the popularity of the messaging app as well as the bad: from chain letters, death threats, to vulnerabilities. But there is also a different aspect of the app which is rarely mentioned in public and which you may not really know anything about, although you should. How many of you actually read the terms and conditions when you install apps? Well, WhatsApp isn’t any different and this app has a dark side when it comes to them and what you accept when you install the app.© AndroidPIT

A large number of people probably didn’t even realize that the legal mumbo jumbo existed when they installed WhatsApp or the legal consequences and implications. For example, who is responsible when sending an image to WhatsApp group chat? What about if your smartphone and by association, your account, has been stolen? Check out the small print found in the privacy and terms.
Change in conditions

The first thing that should be clear is that this application reserves the right to change the terms of use at any time , without notice. Thus, it is the users responsibility to keep up to date with any changes that may occur. Most companies, despite having this clause, will provide a heads-up when they update their terms and conditions however, so we hope that WhatsApp would do the same.
Minimum Age

Many people ignore that in order to use this application; the person must be at least 16 years. If this is not the case requires parental permission to use WhatsApp.
Guarantees and security
The first controversial aspect of WhatsApp is the fact that it cannot guarantee that conversations or files are exchanged confidential. The security problem in the application and in our private conversations has given much to talk about, and looks like it will remain that way for some time;
Moreover, it is also necessary to stress that chats in WhatsApp are not erased, they just become hidden and archived in the database of the app (including our status updates);
WhatsApp also gets all the information of our contacts, since we sent our phone number to the application in order to authorize it, our address book with the information for each contact (name, email address and all the details entered before adding the contact). For this, WhatsApp is given special rights, ie it is supported by the assumption that we already had permission from our contacts in regards to your private information. In other words, WhatsApp washes its hands of any wrong doing on this part, and the responsibility always lies with the user.
Prohibitions
It is forbidden to use WhatsApp for commercial purposes, in the case of a strictly personal application. . Purchases, advertising, etc., are not allowed in chat app;
The use of bots to send mass mailings or spam is strictly prohibited;
While sexual content is not explicitly prohibited, it requires a prior warning, for when sending images or adult themed emoticons;
It is prohibited to use the code to develop clones of the WhatsApp applications (good examples are illegal tools that hide the time of the last connection or that peek in on peer conversations );
It is also prohibited to send content that is not yours. By violating the intellectual property, for example, you take all responsibility.
The same goes for links illegal site, for example.© AndroidPIT
Obligations and consequences
If you lose your smartphone or if it is stolen, you should write an email to WhatsApp stating what happened. Then we will be exempt from liability if someone breaks a rule with our account;
If you violate any of the rules or conditions of using WhatsApp, the developers can delete your account without prior explanation;
We have 12 months to report incidents in the application (viruses, bots, spam, etc..).

And so, while WhatsApp has had some security gaps and flaws that have been exposed in the past, the developers and their lawyers have definitely created an almost airtight privacy and terms in preparation of any type of outcome.

So, did you know about the terms and conditions before using WhatsApp? I know I usually skim over them in quick succession just to be able to test out the app or game, but I might have to take a little bit closer look at what I’m agreeing to before accepting.

FLOW - feel the beat!

Source: AndroidPit

One of the many uses for smartphones - which are now in the millions - is the creation of music. Take this and add a gaming aspect and you’ve got FLOW - A Space Drum Saga DLX. This app entails a combination of entertainment, music and concentration and invites you to embark on a galactic journey. How to manage the game’s many missions and what’s so great about this app will be uncovered in our review.
★★★★☆
Rating
Good👍
✓Challenging concentration and rhythm game
✓Great combo of drums and story game
✓Cool light and sound effects
✓Speed test and automatic settings

Bad👎
✕Reloads after closing the app
✕Connection problems

TESTED ON ANDROID VERSION ROOT MODIFICATIONS TESTED VERSION LATEST VERSIONGoogle Nexus 5 4.4 No 1.2.4 1.2.5

Features & Use

FLOW - A Space Drum Saga DLX is the ideal app for those who have a good sense of rhythm. The game starts you off with a brief list of requirements. For example, you need a device that has good hardware components, otherwise your performance might suffer and you will most likely not enjoy using the app. Headphones are also recommended so that you don’t miss even the finest nuances of sound. © AndroidPIT

The game starts off with a little story and a few simple drums. The atmosphere in the game is modeled around a journey into outer space where you are the captain of a spaceship, fresh out of a coma, who must take control over the ship again. For this purpose, you’ll have to play the drums. It begins relatively simply with the use of one finger and slowly the difficulty level increases as you progress.

Above, you’ll see your energy bar which fills up if you remain in time. If you mess up the rhythm, the energy decreases again. At the top of the screen, the game’s corresponding story unfolds. Little cartoon aliens inform you about news from space, notify you of emergency situations and encourage you to continue drumming because this ensures you’ll have enough energy needed for your spaceship. Once you have passed the first test, you can head to the nearest planet and challenge new beats. © AndroidPIT

With each new planet, the level of difficulty increases. You have to listen really carefully to play the right beat. In addition, as the game progresses, the game will no longer pause for small dialogues between the aliens. So a lot of multitasking is required. The game can get to be quite difficult. You should definitely abide by the headphones tip to ensure you really hear the beat; it’s really the only way that you can fully dive into this rhythmic alien world while you surrender yourself to the beat.

Each level includes little stories and tasks. For example, at one point in time you need to use drums to avoid being eaten by a monster. In the next level, you are tasked with finding a lost tribe. How you do this doesn’t change though: you continue playing the drums and try to stay in rhythm as much as possible.

The game’s story and the drum-playing tasks work well together, creating an incredibly thrilling game experience. Especially when using the headphones, your concentration is fully focused on the beats and dancing aliens.© AndroidPIT

In the settings, you can activate lighting effects, graphics and other functions. However, it’s advisable to perform the automatic speed test. The app checks your settings and configures them automatically so that you have the best possible gaming experience. Alternatively, you can choose various presets like "fast", "standard" and "you". There are also three different difficulty levels and detailed statistics of your drumming. You can check out the games you’ve won, the drums you’ve played, how many perfect rhythms you've had and other details. © AndroidPIT

There’s even a trophy collection, an overview and information about your captain status. In addition, you can see what challenges to expect down the road. There are various special drums that can be unlocked later in the game.
Screen & Controls

In the game itself, the display is divided into two areas: on the top the small aliens dance and below are four large buttons on which the beats are shown. Here you need to find the correct beats so that the story unfolds in the top part of the screen. Sometimes it really required a lot of concentration, but it worked quite well after some getting used to.

The menu within FLOW - A Space Drum Saga DLX is also niccely done. You can jump to various levels by unlocking and visiting other planets. Settings, statistics, and high scores can quickly be reached from the main menu. You are required to swipe to the right in order to navigate through the galaxy.
Speed & Stability

During the test period, and especially after the automatic configuration, the game ran very smoothly and stably. There were no crashes, however the app closed sporadically after taking screenshots. I couldn’t connect to the server during the test despite a stable Wi-Fi network in order to compare the highscores. After closing FLOW - A Space Drum Saga DLX, it often reloaded. Despite these shortcomings, my journey with FLOW was free of problems. Within the levels, there were no interruptions, lags or glitches.

Price/Performance Ratio

FLOW - A Space Drum Saga DLX currently costs 4.73 US dollars and is ad-free. There’s a free version if you want to give it a whirl first before buying. However, the free version does include advertisements.

Final Verdict

FLOW - A Space Drum Saga DLX is an impressive game which isn’t just a lot of fun, it can also be taken seriously if you are keen on improving your concentration, multitasking and sense of rhythm. It did however include a few small bugs such as the pesky reload after the closing of the app. That being said, the developer provides good support and is already working on a solution. Overall, the app did lots to impress: an intuitive interface and a good, fluid performance were just a few of its highlights. In addition, the background story is complex and very nicely designed. For fans of drums and beats, the game is absolutely recommended.

Kings of Parking 3D: fun without real-life obstacles

Source: AndroiPIT

Kings of Parking 3D virtually has you practicing pesky parking maneuvering we all hated learning in real life. Forward, backward, parallel: choose a vehicle from the fleet and steer it as skillfully as possible through various precarious parking situations. Just like you learn in driving school the key is trying to remain calm, don’t panic. In today’s review, we are going to see just how captivating and entertaining this game really is.

Rating
Good
Increasing levels of difficulty
All cars behave differently

Bad
After a while it can become boring
Automatic camera behaves oddly

TESTED ON ANDROID VERSION ROOT MODIFICATIONS TESTED VERSION LATEST VERSIONGoogle Nexus 4 4.4.1 No 1.01 1.01

Features & Use

The basic principles behind Kings of Parking 3D can be quickly described: in each level, the player's task is to maneuver vehicles as quickly as possible to the designated parking area. In the beginning, you’ll quickly master the art of parking, but as the game progresses, the difficulty increases and you are asked to complete much more complex tasks.The first level requires a bit of a learning curve, but it's a lot of fun.

Divided into levels, the player needs to park the car and beat the clock all while ensuring that no damage is done and that you get three stars. This concept is already known from games like Angry Birds or Plants vs Zombies, however in Kings of Parking 3D, they’ve omitted entirely a framework for action. Here you’ll find the subject of parking under time pressure, packed into a funny story. Though the game is quite good, I feel like there is more room here for growth.
Like the game on Facebook and you get the Android truck!

Overall, the fleet of cars includes four different kinds of vehicles, each level stars one of the four cars. It starts off with a school bus and then the levels become increasingly harder. Next to the bus, there’s a sedan, a sports car and the Android truck, which can be unlocked only with a "Like" on Facebook. In the free version, you need to complete a chapter before having access to the next one.You'll find the high scores under ''Check-in''.

Overall Kings of Parking 3D was well done, although I found the total length of the game to be too short. Given the fact that it is free, I wouldn’t say that this is a negative point. There is still room for improvement in their choice for the controls. Although the developer implemented the MOGA controller just recently, more options for on-screen operation would have been appreciated. For example, the size of controllers or an adjustment to the camera angles.
Screen & Controls

In a game like Kings of Parking 3D, it’s difficult to make a distinction between controls and functionality. How fun the game is, is significantly influenced by the game’s controls, especially in this genre.

Although it was generally well done, there is still room for improvement. The automatic camera is particularly frustrating because it switches on its own which isn’t always to your advantage. With limited parking maneuvers, the perspective would suddenly change and the player loses important parts of the image.

Though you are able to switch to a manual camera, this costs you valuable seconds from your score. A setting for the behavior of the automatic camera before started a level would be great.

The other controls for Kings of Parking 3D are otherwise very well done, even if the player goes through a certain learning curve at the start of the game. After a few minutes of play, the controls are no longer a problem and a high score can be achieved.

The graphics were also very well done, though at times the corners and edges of the game would disappear.
Speed & Stability

During our testing period, no crashes at Kings of Parking 3D were noticed.
Price/Performance Ratio

Kings of Parking 3D is ad-supported and is available for free. For 99 cents, all the levels can be unlocked. Furthermore, the application is then ad-free.Der erwähnte In-App-Einkauf.
Final Verdict

Kings of Parking 3D is a successful game. Without question, the app is fun, though after a certain time, it can become monotonous. It sometimes seemed as if the application was missing a few finishing touches, like some advanced settings for the automatic camera and a broader fleet. Nevertheless, installing Kings of Parking 3D is worth it.

Samsung roundup: S5 release, GamePad controller and four new tablets

There's so much Samsung news happening right now we needed a roundup.

First up, news on the Galaxy S5, which is slated for release at Mobile World Congress next year. This date hasn't been confirmed of course, but it's the current best guess, and Samsung has announced they will reveal their first quad-HD display smartphone at the event, which it seems hard to believe would be anything other than the Galaxy S5. The device will have a resolution of 2,560x1,440 pixels. Because we don't know the screen size yet we can't tell you the pixel density, but suffice to say it's likely to be crazy good. If it's a 5-inch screen that'll be around 585 ppi. If MWC sees the reveal of the S5, it should go on sale towards the end of April.
We have no idea what it will look like, but the Galaxy S5 will have a stunning display.

Next up, for all you tablet fans out there, Samsung will be dropping four new tablets in the first quarter 2014 to keep you satisfied. We already know Samsung will be focusing on the tablet market next year so this comes as no surprise. There's not too many details on what will be released, other than the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, the cheapest Samsung tablet yet at around 100 Euro. Another possibility could be the long-rumored 12.2-inch Galaxy Note. More Lite models sound likely too, with the Galaxy Note 3 Lite to be unveiled at MWC also, appearing soon thereafter.The Galaxy Tab 3 Lite will be Samsung's cheapest tablet.

Speaking of Samsung's splitting of its offerings into Lite and premium models, there's still the persistent rumor that the S5 will be available in a premium and super premium metal version. It's very clear that Samsung are trying to offer something for everybody and cover every single facet of the market. In that vain, the Korean manufacturer has just announced the Galaxy Core Advance, a mid-range 4.7-inch smartphone with more dedicated physical buttons for easier usability for those not so comfortable with an all-touch smartphone experience. The device is focused on accessibility, featuring a range of enhanced usability functions that will surely appeal to a wide range of users, including those with visual impairments.The Galaxy Core Advance is designed to provide better accessibility.

Spreading the Samsung net even further, there's now a wireless game controller called, ingeniously enough, Smartphone GamePad that you can use to get more of a console feel on your mobile games. Your Samsung will attach to the controller and connect via a HDMI cable or AllShare Screen Mirroring. Any Samsung device with a display between 4-6.3 inches will be supported. Bluetooth or NFC will provide the initial link and the rest is, as they say, gaming history. Interestingly though, the GamePad connects via Bluetooth v3.0, not low-energy Smart Bluetooth v4.0. Samsung has also launched a new mobile gaming app called Mobile Console that will instantly bring up GamePad-supported games.
'The GamePad will turn your Samsung smartphone into a wannabe Nvidia Shield.

Meanwhile, we've all heard the stories about yet more Samsung batteries going up in flames after several quiet months without any Galaxy fireballs. Recently, Richard Wygand woke up to the smell of smoke and went to inspect, only to find his Galaxy S4 happily roasting away at the power socket. When he brought the problem to Samsung's (and YouTube's) attention, he was promptly served with a legal letter politely requesting him to remove the video and keep his mouth shut. He decided not to and instead opted to warn other customers of the dangers and repercussions. Nokia caught wind of this and sent him a new Lumia. Seems that in between Nokia suing the pants off HTC, they can still find time to treat (other companies') customers right.

What is your favorite Samsung tidbit? Are you holding out for a Galaxy S5 or have the recent update/customer service/battery issues made you think twice?
